Awards

Awards totaling over $60,000 are given in the form of scholarships, savings bonds, cash awards, books, trips medals, and other prizes.

Some of these awards include:

  • INGENIOUS RESEARCH AWARD. A cash award for the most fundamentally sound project involving testing or use of common materials.
  • SENIOR DIVISION CATEGORY AWARDS. 1st place - $100 and medal, 2nd place - $50 and medal, 3rd place - $25 and medal.
  • JUNIOR DIVISION CATEGORY AWARDS. 1st place - $100 and medal, 2nd place - $50 and medal, 3rd place - $25 and medal.

About 100-120 participants will have the opportunity to compete in the New Mexico State Science and Engineering Fair at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Socorro, NM.

Up to 8 EXPENSE PAID TRIPS to the International Science and Engineering Fair in May each year, for up to 4 individuals and 2 teams along with their teacher/sponsors.

In addition to the fair's awards, numerous special awards are given out each year. These awards are given by particular scientific organizations, professional groups, government agencies, educational institutions, individuals, and community businesses. In 2009, there were nearly 200 donors of special awards. The following are some of the special awards given out last year:

  • Twenty $750 UNM scholarships
  • Two $1,250 Association of Old Crows Scholarships
  • $1000 W. Randolph Lovelace II Memorial Scholarship
  • Three $250 General Electric Elfun Scholarships
  • $500 UNM School of Engineering Scholarship
  • $300 NM Educational Assistance Foundation Scholarship
  • Nearly $20,000 in Student & Teacher Awards sponsored by member organizations of NAIOP New Mexico - The Commercial Real Estate Development Association
  • Over $1,000 in Student Awards sponsored by the Foreman Family
  • Much, much more!
