The UNM STEM-H Center Staff is a comprised of three dedicated individuals who work together to improve STEM opportunities in New Mexico.

Karen Kinsman, MS, PMP

Director/Senior Program Manager

Karen has been with UNM since 2002 when her initial role was managing the Central NM STEM Research Challenge (then called Regional Science & Engineering Fair). Over time, the organization has grown, taking on other programs and creating new services with which to support the STEM-H education community in Central NM and beyond. In early 2013, the organization became the UNM STEM-H Center for Outreach, Research and Education. In addition to its core programs & services, the STEM-H Center is focusing on a broader set of external STEM-H education related initiatives, developing strategic partnerships/collaborations, and working on state/federal STEM-H education policy/ advocacy as requested.

Erin Garcia, JD

Program Specialist

Erin first began working with the STEM-H Center as a student while earning her Bachelor’s degree at UNM in 2005. She has been in her current position of Program Specialist since 2011. Erin’s primary responsibility is to manage the STEM-H Center’s three competition: the Central NM STEM Research Challenge, the Central NM Science Olympiad, and the SW Junior Science & Humanities Symposium. Erin is usually the first point of contact when someone reaches out to the STEM-H Center and she is committed to supporting teachers and students as they engage in inquiry-based learning.

 

 

Laura Arguelles, MA

Web Developer

Laura has been working with the UNM STEM-H Center since 2013. Her primary responsibilities are website development and communications. She also supports our various programs with technical support, content creation, social media management, and whatever might come up. She enjoys being part of this hardworking team and helping bring STEM programs and opportunities to New Mexico.
